Health minister admits to have received inside information, threatens with lawsuit party leader

Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis said on Thursday he will file a lawsuit against the leader of opposition party Course of Freedom, Zoi Konstantopoulou for slander. At the same time, he admitted to have received inside information by a police officer, “a friend.”

Speaking at the Parliament on Thursday evening, Konstantopoulou referred to Health Minister as “pathetic subject” and accused him for defending the Violanta factory ownership right after the fire that killed 5 workers.

Georgiadis who was informed of Konstantopoulous’ statements rushed to the Parliament and then the hell broke out with fierce personal attacks.

Defending himself from “slander” as he shouted in his beloved behavior, the Health Minister described Konstantopoulou as “the most toxic, poisonous and abusive thing that has ever passed through Parliament”, claimed that “within three years, three of her six MPs have left her party” and announced that he will file a lawsuit against her.

Taken away from his rage against her, Georgiadis cynically and unabashedly confessed that he had learned of the lawsuit she had filed against him “from a friend,” a police officer who texted him about it.

Konstantopoulou, who is a lawyer by profession, immediately called on the chief of Greek Police and the Minister of Citizen Protection to resign for having allowed a police officer to inform somebody privately about a lawsuit, thus committing a breach of duty.

Still on Friday morning, minister Georgiadis posted on social media that there was nothing wrong to be informed by “a friend.”

A police officer, a “friend” of the health minister, provides him with inside information from official documents for a personal case and this is nothing wrong? Unbelievable things occur in this Banana Republic of south-east Europe.

Meanwhile, the chief of Police informed Konstantopoulou in a phone call that they will investigate the police officer and so did a press release by Greek Police also on Friday morning.

“Investigation is under way into any disciplinary or criminal responsibilities of police officers” the statement issued by the headquarter of the Greek Police said.

Anyway, Georgiadis had claimed to file the lawsuit on upcoming Monday.

PS Some Greeks wonder whether he will still hold his minister position next week. But you know, how things run in a Banana Republic, don’t you?

  1. But we have no bananas! Unless you mean those little things on Crete. However, all Greek politicians are clearly bananas.
