One of the other two drivers involved in the accident, a 78-year-old driver from the area, told Alpha TV:

“I didn’t change lanes, I was driving normally, I saw him like a beast in front of me. First he hit me and then he went and fell on the van, he fell on a 3.5-ton semi-truck and left nothing on the front. He was 95 years old and his license was expiring in six days. It wasn’t because he was 95, he was already speeding.”

He said further that although his own vehicle sustained damage, he and his wife were unharmed. He added that “the door simply wouldn’t open and I couldn’t get out. Someone came and helped me.”

The 95-year-old driver was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities conducted a forensic examination to determine whether the death was caused by the accident itself or by pre-existing medical conditions.

The 95-year-old had departed from Kalamaria bound for Halkida in Evia a distance of a 461 km.

At the time of the crash he had already covered over 150 km.

The accident took place on Monday, March 2, 2026.
