Τhe Greek Maritime Ministry issued on Wednesday an urgent warning to Greek shipping companies and vessel masters on the potential mining of the Strait of Hormuz.
Citing international and domestic press reports on information from US intelligence services that “Iran either has or will mine” the strait, the ministry warned:
Iran has begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most important energy chokepoint that carries about one-fifth of all crude oil, according to two people familiar with US intelligence reporting on the issue. https://t.co/2tTCgwsrwH pic.twitter.com/TiBYxXMhOp

“Given that the potential mining of the area would pose a most severe threat to shipping security, shipping companies and masters of Greek ships in the Persian Gulf, outside it or in the Gulf of Oman should include the above in their risk assessment,” the ministry said in its warning.
