“Faros Global Community” platform for Greek studies launched internationally

The “Faros Global Community” digital platform for Greek studies was  launched on Monday by the Education Ministry in Athens.

The platform facilitates exploration of more than 500 study programmes offered by over 150 institutions in more than 40 countries.

Study in Greece brings together Greek studies departments and programmes from around the world.

The Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Sofia Zacharaki, said that the Faros Global Community maps Greek studies departments and Greek language centers around the world, creating a new international network of cooperation.

She also spoke about the “e-ellinomatheia” project, which is currently underway and leverages the potential of distance learning, giving people around the world the opportunity to learn Greek and prepare for studies at Greek universities.

Zacharaki also noted that Greek-language education abroad is a “consistent and long-standing priority” for the Ministry of Education, with approximately 40,000 students worldwide learning Greek through 230 recognized Greek language departments, supported by 752 teachers seconded from Greece.

During the current school year, more than 145,000 textbooks have been sent to Greek schools abroad.

Minister Zacharaki emphasized that “the Greek language can be one of the most powerful tools for the internationalization of higher education. It can attract new students. It can strengthen cooperation among universities. It can open new avenues for Greece internationally. Because when the Greek language travels, Greece travels with it.”
