Sahara dust and “muddy rainfalls” forecast for Greece

Sahara dust will be sweeping in the largest parts of Greece starting on Tuesday, April 14, and for the four following days, while muddy showers and temperature rises are forecast for the rest of the week.

The Ionian Islands and western Greece are expected to be mostly affected by the intense wave of Sahara dust today.

According to Greek meteorologists, the phenomenon is forecast to last Tuesday to Friday, April 14-17, 2026 before northerly winds begin and the dust subsides.

As the windy live map shows, the African dust will begin to hit the west from today at noon, before affecting almost the entire country on Wednesday morning – small exceptions are Crete and the Aegean islands-.

From Thursday noon, the African dust will travel throughout Greece, while on Friday it will sweep the entire country again, without affecting Evia, Thrace and the islands of the northeastern Aegean.

Forecast by the meteo service of the National Observatory of Athens: Wednesday noon, Thursday morning, Thursday afternoon and Friday afternoon.

During this period, the weather is expected to be rainy, without strong phenomena expected.

From Thursday noon, the African dust will travel throughout Greece, while on Friday it will sweep the entire country again, without affecting Evia, Thrace and the islands of the northeastern Aegean.
