Greece recorded the largest increase in real per capita household income, that is, income available for consumption or savings, among OECD countries in the fourth quarter of 2025, with a 3.3% rise compared with the previous quarter, according to data released on Wednesday by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The main drivers of growth in real income were increases in both net property income and workers’ earnings.
The Organization noted that the unemployment rate fell to its lowest level since 2009.
Sources noted that the improvement in disposable income was recorded before reductions in tax withholdings of at least two percentage points per bracket for low- and middle-income earners took effect. These reductions were announced at last year’s Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) and implemented at the beginning of the year, while even greater relief is planned for families with children and young workers.
Greece’s performance becomes even more significant when one considers that growth across all OECD member countries stood at just 0.7%, the sources added. Several of the world’s largest economies, meanwhile, remained stagnant.
PS Correct should be: “Greece’s performance becomes even more significant when one considers that …” despite the increase on papers, in real life there is a huge decrease due to ongoing rising cost of living.

GDP per capita is an almost meaningless statistic. It is simply total economic activity, as recorded by the State, divided by total population. It takes no account of income or wealth distribution, or changes in those. Given that worsening income distribution is a worldwide phenomenon since 2010, this is a major defect. And as for wealth distribution (i.e., assets not earnings), governments and the OECD do not even have any statistical data! One might suggest that they are afraid to reveal how bad the situation really is, worsening every minute, with something like 0.1 per cent of the wogld’s population owning half of the world’s assets.
Does the OECD mention that we were the poorest country in Europe last year with even Bulgaria surpassing us ?
