Athens – Vyronas: Quality products directly from Farmers at competitive prices, Dec 9/2012

Municipality of Vyronas, suburb of Athens, organizes the ‘Producers’ Village, where farmers directly sell their products to consumers at competitive prices as no intermediaries are involved.

19 producers’ associations from all over Greece will sell more than 90 products like olive oil, olives, dairy (yogurt, butter, cheese), legumes (lentils, chickpeas etc), rice, pasta, potatoes, honey, flour, eggs, flavored teas, fruits, nuts, jams and marmalade, raki, honey, wine, snails and raisins.

It is the second time the Vyronas Municipality organizes such a direct market.

“The success of the first event and the increased interest by producers to participate resulted in the extension of the initiative to integrate this more than 30 new products,” said Mayor Byron Nikos Chardalias

“The ‘Producers’ Village’ comes to meet a need in society for the supply of quality, Greek products at affordable prices. We believe that such initiatives can play a regulatory role in the market, helping to streamline the sales prices of basic goods.”

The open market will take place at Vyronas Park “Karaoli & Dimitriou” form 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

There is no need to order in advance. Just go there and buy, but better go early, then often products disappear in no time…

Next Producers’ Village market will take place on 13. January 2013.

Farmers and producers started to sell directly to consuners last winter, when recession and austerity swallowed the incomes but products prices did not decrease.

PS Bravo to Vyronas Municipality 🙂

  1. “compititive” = hope it is low enough so that people of $500 a month wage can afford it!
    It seems good news!
