Remember when you were a kid with not much money? Remember what did you do, when you and the other kids on the block wanted to pay for ice cream or movies for all? Each kid would empty its pockets and do its share throwing some coins to the common fund and interest.
The same does more or less Greece nowadays…
Alternate Finance Minister Dimitris Mardas ordered Greece’s ministries and other bodies to transfer the reserves from 1,039 accounts in the four systemic, commercial banks (Piraeus, National, Alpha and Eurobank) to a special account at the Bank of Greece.
According to a finance ministry statement, the order refers to inactive bank accounts (last activity in 2009) with small amounts between €0,00 and €99,99.
The total amount is estimated to be less than one million euro.
The order says that the transfer has to be concluded by June 5th 2015.
The Finance Ministry explained in a statement that similar actions have been taken place also also in the past.
The famous Greek tranche to IMF that threatens to declare the country as “default” if failed to be paid on June 5th is: €
By June 5th, we will have scraped together at least €one million – Credit event almost averted 🙂
BTW: I am surprised to see Dimitris Mardas has all inactive accounts incl ownership in a 39-page pdf file!
