Greece’ tax evaders never run out of ideas. Always a new trick, always a new luck for the private wallet. Tax controllers on the island of Corfu took one snack bar at the local intercity bus service (KTEL) station under inspection and found this:
The snack bar employees would type the sold items and the amounts in the electronic cash register.
But the clever machine had an option “Standby“.
Receipts would be issued, the customers would be happy to get a receipt but later the owner would make use of an additional option and cancel the amounts on Standby.
At the end of the day, the cash register would have registered only part of the revenues or no revenues at all. Depending on the mood of the owner, who did not want to neither pay Value Added Tax to the state nor to disclose his real revenues…
The owner was punished with a fine totaling €7.750 and a padlock for 48 hours
Video: the fraud with fake receipts
PS some Greeks have developed Tax Evasion into a science, it seems….
Clever!
Last year when I was in Crete in one of the good restaurants I was given a receipt that was used a few hours before but the amount was more or less what should I have paid.
this means only that there was a malfunction of the clock, cleaners were cutting power
What’s the problem? In Germoney with manipulated electronic cash register it’s 10 billion annual and receipts one gets only from a doctor to buy medicine

meanwhile, I read the ZEIT article too. Tomorrow I need to apologize by the GR tax evaders
