Obama: “Greece has made progress but still way to be covered

“In Greece there is progress, but you have a long way ahead,” US President Barack Obama said during his conversation with President Prokopis Pavlopoulos in front of the cameras. Obama added that the United States stand by Greece and the Greek people.

he made a special reference to the refugees and congratulated Greece for showing humanity to the refugees.

Welcoming Barack Obama, President Pavlopoulos thanked the US president for his support to Greece and the Greek people in this time of deep economic crisis. The President expressed confidence that the next US president, Donald Trump, will continue in the same direction.

In his reply, the US President thanked the President of the Republic for the warm welcome in Athens.

I thought that in my last trip as President we ought to visit the country that gave birth to Democracy. We understand that the Greek people have suffered in the  difficult economic times, but the situation improves, we will work together but there is enough way to be covered yet,” Obama said.

“The EU is a good thing not only for the US but for the world,” the US President pointed out and congratulated the government for the compassion and humanity towards refugees who have arrived in the country.”

Barack Obama particularly thanked Greece for its contribution within the NATO and the facilities in the Aegean Sea especially with regards terrorism in the Middle East and said that there will be continuity with regards to NATO whether Democrats or Republicans in the US administration.

I look forward to my visit to the Acropolis, as from the moment one is in Greece, Acropolis is a place that one has to visit,” Obama said before the two presidents moved for private conversation away from the cameras.
