Greece’s left-led government says it would welcome a decision by the International Monetary Fund to pull out of the country’s bailout program, which is bogged down in disagreements on further spending cuts.
Government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos is blaming the Washington-based fund for “pointless delays” in the negotiations.
Athens hopes a deal with European creditors and the IMF will boost Greece’s battered economy, allowing access to the European Central Bank’s bond-buying program and, later, to international markets.
The IMF participated in Greece’s two previous bailouts, but is still deliberating whether to finance the current, third program signed in 2015. It says fiscal targets agreed upon between Greece and the Europeans are too optimistic.
Tzanakopoulos said Tuesday it would be “a good development for Greece and Europe” if the IMF declines to participate. (via AP)
PS How nice. IMF goes, as Greece is 100% delivered to German Parliament and Schaeuble. No way out. Having to choose between Worse and Worse. Not sure the Greek government understood Schaeuble warning it is not advisable the IMF leaves.
Dear Dimitri, you better shut up and listen to your German master.
Nope, Greece isn’t refusing the IMF. The deal means only that Greece had to say “yes” to the participation, which Greece perfectly did.
This was a very long siga, siga, Greece can’t wait 2 years until the IMF finishes its toilet, what are they reading on the toilet, “Trump”, “next elections to come”, “bring down the Greek government to influence some other coming elections in three European countries”?
If the IMF doesn’t want this it’s not Greece problem, it’s Schauble’s and Merkel’s and all German politicians who voted this sick good-cop-bad-cop swindle because it was them who were lying, not Greece!
“Greek Government”?? I guess you are referring to the lipstick dog-and-pony show that provides “democratic” cover for Troika running the country. Maintaining the appearance of democracy for an international audience is vital component of being in NATO. NATO domination of Greece is the bottom line. The rest is just candy for the bankers.
Whatever the “Greek government” does it is paid very well by Troika to do. This is not a Greek battle but a fight over our heads between the competing greed and internal agendas of our rulers – Troika vs IMF. IMF is trying to clean up its act for international consumption by admitting that 3.5% is impossible and no country has ever achieved that. But greedy, freaked out Mario Draghi “needs” the money and each little Troika-ette wants his share of the corpse…
The Troika has a leader: it is called the 4th Reich, waging war on Europe for the third time in 100 years. It is just that Europe is in deep decay, too deep for its elites to see clearly.
