Greece’s Civil Protection warning of Very High Risk of Fires, Aug 21

Greece’s Civil Protection has issued a Very High Risk warning for wildfires for Tuesday,  August 21st 2018.  According to the statement, large parts of Greece are at Very High Risk (Level 4) and High Risk (Level 3) of fires.

At Very High Risk are the regions of Attica, Sterea, Peloponnese, islands in the Aegean Sea.

Attica Prefecture

Sterea Prefecture:  Evia

High Risk of Fire for:

The Dodecanese islands, the Cyclades and the islands of North Aegean Sea, East and south Peloponnese.

For regions marked with Yellow, there is High Risk for Fires (Level 3). Blue marks regions with Medium Risk and Green with Low Risk.

Summer North winds (meltemia) will be blowing in the risk areas with intensity of up to 6-7 Beaufort.

Civil Protection urges citizens to be very careful and avoid acts outdoors that can cause fire by negligence, such as throwing lit cigarettes, burning dry vegetation and small branches (twigs) and branches or cleaning residues, using sparking machines such as circular saws, welding devices, the use of outdoor grills etc.

The Civil Protection reminds that setting fields on fire is prohibited during the “anti-fire season” in the summer months.

In the event of a fire, citizens should immediately notify the Fire Service by calling number <199>
