This has been an all times Greek classic. “Min ton rotas ton oyrano” – Don’t ask the sky. It was composed by Manos Hatzidakis 1959 for the film “To nisi ton gennaion” (The island of the Brave) about the battle of Crete during the Nazi occupation. Originally it was sung by actress Tzeni Karezi. My favorite performance is by singer Mary Lo, but I couldn’t find it… I think the song matches perfect to this moody Athens sky today.

Lyrics in English
Word after word, we lost the sense of time
pain possessed us and the night came.
and let me drink the sun from your lips
Don’t ask the sky, the cloud and the moon
your dark glance has taken something from the night.
Whatever found us and whatever made us sorry
struck us secretly like a knife
Wipe the tear with your handkerchief
and let me drink the sun from your lips
