Woody Allen’s ‘Midnight in Paris’ had an unexpected surprise for Greece’s Interior Minister Xaris Kastanidis on Friday night in Thessaloniki. Instead of enjoying a movie romance with a pop corn special, Kastanidis had to hear the protests of students who not only raised a banner and chanted anti-government slogans, but also hurled a yogurt … or two?
The students had a protest concert at the Venizelos Square. When it became known that the Minister went to the movies, some 100 students broke into the “Olympion” movie-theater and started chanting slogans like “Get out of here!”, “You destroyed our lives”. “People don’t want you, take the helicopter and get out of here!”. It was after some minutes in the overcorded movie that the yogurt was hurled towards the minister.
Kastanidis tried to talk to the protesters who denied any word exchange with him. The students calmed down after the minister left the theater. He will most likely enjoy Allen’s latest film on DVD or even download it.

But I know what you mean: in the country where I originate from, ministers used to come to parliament on foot or on bicycle. Soooo glad that they were/are threatened so much (one even was murdered) that they now only can drive in armored cars… (Yes, this is sarcasm)
Red paint is normally what is prefered to throw in Denmark. But I can only remember ones it happened.. Was something about an egg one time also..
btw.. its not feta-cubes anymore, its called salat-cubes.. ;-)..
But yes, its an ambivalente situation.. Because is it gonna end up with them not being able to walk around freely, like u see in some countries. One thing is yogurt, but when is it gonna be a grenate?
That said, I still think the students did well. Screamed at him and a bit of yogurt, but didnt touch him. On the other hand, he got a bit of a taste of the panic that many here are felling.. So its a 50-50 situation..
