Is the euro really collapsing? Does the euro zone near the end? I can’t answer these questions but the Britons allegedly prepare their Plan B to help British expats through the collapse of the common currency, collapsing of the banking system and outbreak of riots. British The Telegraph in an article Prepare for riots in euro collapse, reports that the Foreign Office and the Treasure confirmed “earlier this month that contingency planning for a collapse is now under way ” as the Italian government struggled to borrow and Spain considered seeking an international bail-out.
British ministries seem to consider a euro collapse as an issue of a “matter of time”.
Recent Foreign and Commonwealth Office instructions to embassies and consulates request contingency planning for extreme scenarios including rioting and social unrest.
Greece has seen several outbreaks of civil disorder as its government struggles with its huge debts. British officials think similar scenes cannot be ruled out in other nations if the euro collapses.
Diplomats have also been told to prepare to help tens of thousands of British citizens in eurozone countries with the consequences of a financial collapse that would leave them unable to access bank accounts or even withdraw cash.
There is also the potential for social unrest: embassies and consulates have been told to prepare for a flood of inquiries and requests for help if the euro stops working in some countries and other currencies have to be introduced (there are a million Britons in Spain alone). Fortunately, the government can keep liquidity flowing at home in an emergency, thanks to the UK retaining its own currency. source: Telegraph
Great Britain is not a member of the euro zone.
Great Britain is not a member of the euro zone.—————–Thankfully, where the EU is concerned staying out of the euro was the only sensible thing British governments have done. As to it not being in the euro zone the collapse of the euro will still effect those not in it. Though I wouldn’t take the word of the government that they have a plan B, like the EU bureaucrats who really don’t have a clue, except their desire to ensure the euro doesn’t collapse, it’s a case they’re hoping something will turn up, no matter they’re bringing the people of Europe to their knees. Apparently there’s rumours that Germany already has the Deutchmark printed, though Merkel will do all in her power to stop the fall of the euro, if that falls German industry will be on the same footing as everyone else, whereas it’s been miles ahead due of the euro, and it’d be the end of the communist/marxist dream of a federal europe.
yeah but at the end Germany won’t be able to export its goods to rest of EU because people would be broke.
cars suck anyway and as Germany has no resources it must die
We’re all in deep sh*t and the EU could not care less, yet sadly many Greeks still believe the EU is their saviour, that they will save them, make no mistake if they think throwing you out of the euro, which apparently the Greeks don’t want, will help their cause, they will without the blink of any eye, and not only Greece. Before these EU parasites beggar people any further they, and ALL politicans and bureaucrats, should ALL be forced to hand over ALL their own assets, they should be forced into penury the same as we are, but no they continue to live a life of luxury, it’s criminal. There’s a few thousand destroying the lives of billions.
It’s always good to get these things of your chest. And a hyperbole can be very helpful. But also a trap to work oneself into. 😉
A nice mind game: At the moment there seem to be a majority of voters in several EU countries in favour of throwing Greece out of the euro and if Greece wants to stay in the Greeks have to do mega “Paenitentia” (although Latin it is a real Protestant streak). When their governments listen to them is that democratic or not?
You appear to think I’m some kind of conspiracy theorist or nut job, I can assure you neither is the case. I don’t know whether you have a problem facing the realities of what the EU is or an ardent supporter of it, as you are aware:) I hate it with a passion. To your comment a majority of voters are in favour of Greece being thrown out of the euro, that’s probably true, and in all honesty can you blame them when governments are having to borrow billions to give to the EU/IMF for the bailouts, the first bailout people were fine with, most were glad to help out, but when it comes to their politicans having to borrow more billions for other bailouts while people are being taxed until the pips squeak to pay for it that’s when they think enough is enough, I’m sure if the boot was on the other foot ordinary Greeks would also be objecting. Plus most know the bailouts is purely & simply to save the euro. If/when the EU/IMF decided it wasn’t in their interest to carry on bailing Greece out they’d drop you like a hot coal without a second thought, but you seem unable to believe this so resort to mocking & snide remarks when people point it out. There’s a good, informative blog called EUreferendum, that can tell you all you need to know about the EU and the inside workings and its ultimate aims, by all means dismiss what I post but please have a look at the site. 🙂
I wouldn’t worry too much. The British Government are not known for helping Britons in trouble abroad anyhow. They usually leave them stranded in warzones etc.. and are the last government to give a damn.
The only reason any government uses scare stories is to keep us peasants under control, you Greeks should know that, you’ve had enough of it to last a lifetime!
Our mainstream media love to sensationalise stupid quotes. It sells papers! One would think Europe is filled with barbarians!!!
If there are riots, it’ll be the eurocrats, bankers and politicians that we want to fight, not each other! Perhaps that’s what they’re worried about?
ver wisely said 🙂
And parachutists over Crete, anyone?
much to muy knowledge, currently not. Strong winds blowing (the euro away lol)
I wouldn’t worry too much. The British Government are not known for helping Britons in trouble abroad anyhow…………….They’re not known for helping Britons in Britain either, especially the elderly who are treated digracefully. Once people start drawing their meagre pensions as far as the government is concerned (any party) they can no longer be used as cash cows therefore they’ve outlived their usefulness.
