Hardly had the mass protest started and riots broke out in Athens. The riots started at 5.20 pm in front of the Parliament at the monument of the Unknown Soldier. Riot police fired tear gas against protesters hurling oranges and stones against them. Protesters started to move towards the south part of Syntagma Square.

Olice says there are 10,000 protesters, while Greek media speak of more than 20,000 people.
