President of Council of State, senior judge Panagiotis Pikrammenos is named caretaker Prime Minister, assigned to lead the country to fresh elections on June 17th 2012.
The decision was taken by the president after political leaders failed anew to agree on a political person during a meeting on Wednesday noon.
There was a proposal to keep Lucas Papademos on the post, but there was no consent among the leaders.
Pikrammenos will visit the Presidential Mansion at 03:15 pm today in order to be assigned to his new duties.
Who is?
Panagiotis Pikrammenos was born 1945 in Athens.
He studied Law at the Athens Law University and post-degree studies in Public Law in Paris.
1992-1993 Pikrammenos worked as legal adviser at the office of conservative Prime Minister Kostantinos Mitsotakis.
He is President of the Council of State (Supreme Administration Court) since 2010.
Greek Council of State takes examines among others legal cases on their compatibility with the constitution.
Panagiotis Pikrammenos was President when the Council of State (Supreme Administrative Court) decided that the Memorandum of Understanding I (loan agreement) was in compliance with the Greek Constitution.
Under his presidency the CoS also ruled that the emergency property tax is in compliance with the Constitution only if it is temporary and not permanent and that power cuts due to unpaid property tax via electircity bills are against the Constitution.
