Alexis Tsipras, leader of main opposition part, left-wing SYRIZA warned Portuguese about the fatal impact of austerity. Speaking to Portuguese news agency Lusa, Tsipras said that “Greece of today maybe be Portugal tomorrow” if the country continues implementing the Troika imposed austerity measures.
“Greece is one, one and a half year ahead of Portugal in terms of recession. Both countries have the same experience, the same enemies and the same treatment by Troika”, Tsipras told Portuguese news agency Lusa Tuesday in Sao Paolo, during his visit to Brazil.
The leader of the Greek left foresees that 2013 “will be the worst year in terms of recession” for his country, not only economically but also from the humanitarian point of view, due to the high unemployment level and to the increase in the number of suicides.”
Alexis Tsipras is currently touring several countries in South America.
