Independence Day parade on the islands of Rhodes turned bloody. A woman stabbed a member of the city council, while a protester punched the local police director right in the face. According to local news portal rodiaki.gr, the incidents started with a group of protesters verbally attacking local and regional politicians. This angered the deputy prefect of Dodecanese who told the police to “finally do its duty.”
Apparently the police took the prefect’s order too seriously, the police chief started to speak to protesters in a rather harsh manner. He even took the flag form the hands of one protester.
Protest banner: “How many suicides? How much misery? How much national humiliation still? Greeks break the chains.”
Protesters got angry, and the police chief got a punch in the face. Riot police squads moved to bring back the law and order. The parade continued…
