Greece Civil Protection sent emergency alerts via <112> to residents and visitors of many parts of eastern Greece ahead of the severe weather conditions.
The emergency alerts were sent at noon on Friday, July 24, 2026.
The messages sent to residents and visitors of Fthiotida, central and northern Evia, and Skyros, warning them of locally heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and intense lightning activity in their areas from the early afternoon hours of Friday and for the following 12 hours.
At the same time, the 112 emergency alert system called on residents of the affected areas to exercise caution when traveling and to follow the instructions issued by the authorities.
Moreover, warning messages via the emergency number 112 were sent on Friday afternoon to mobile phones belonging to residents in the regional units of Larissa, Magnesia and the Sporades islands, ahead of the arrival of severe weather conditions.
The message warned of locally intense rainfall, thunderstorms and strong lightning activity from the early afternoon hours and for the following 12 hours.
The Civil Protection urged citizens to exercise particular caution when traveling and to follow the instructions issued by the competent authorities.
The weather phenomena may, in some areas, be accompanied by strong winds, frequent lightning strikes and hailstorms, while the relevant services remain on heightened alert to address any potential problems.
Citizens are also advised to avoid crossing torrents and streams, traveling on flooded roads, as well as engaging in outdoor or sea activities during thunderstorms.
