Athens: Afghan boy, 14, victim of racist attack

A shocking racist attack took place on Easter Monday (May 6, 2013) in the centre of Athens. Victim is a 14-year-old boy from Afghanistan. the boy reported he was attacked by a group of men dressed in black outside the metro station of Attiki square.

Greek media report that the group asked the documents from the boy. As the Afghan teen declared he had no any, he was kicked and fell on the ground. The attackers reportedly smashed a bottle of beer and injured him on the forehead.

The group fled, while the boy collapsing in the middle of the street. A passerby took him to the hospital, where doctors closed the wounds with some 30 stitches, prescript medication and let him go.

The boy was taken to Doctors of the World. The NGO made the attack known to the public.

The victim is currently under the protection of Doctors of the World and stays at a charity hostel, while the UNHCR reported the incident to police and justice.

The boy had illegally entered Greece with his mother on their way to Switzerland where another family member resides. The human traffickers had reportedly separated the family.
