Whoops! German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble apparently arrived very hungry in Athens. Most possibly because he is a hard-working and industrious German who wakes up early in the morning and eats his breakfast before he leaves home for office or other important meeting. An early breakfast craves for an early lunch, so around 12:30,… 1 o’ clock and not at 3 or 4 as the Greeks do.
The hospitable Greeks made the necessary arrangements and hosted a working lunch with the German Finance Minister as early as the protocol could make it possible.
According to some Greek media, the menu started with a salad with prosciutto, continued with filet mignon and ended…. sorry! the whole menu was not revealed – I suppose, in respect of the hungry Greeks.
Mahlzeit (Engl. ‘meal time’) is a common German salutation used among co-workers, normally between 11 am and 2 pm, that is around lunch time. It is descended from the formal salutation “Gesegnete Mahlzeit” (archaic term: blessed meal).
