However Stournaras’ only problem is this: those rich Greeks have transferred their money and assets to off-shores long time ago and they don’t give a damn about his decisions.
Behind are the employees and pensioners, who pay their tax before the income reach their pockets. And the self-employed like souvlaki tavern or shop owners, like plumbers or electricians who try to cheat the finance ministry by not issuing receipts for goods and services they offer.
What’s the total amount each one of those tax evaders should owe to the state via tax and Value Added Tax? It can be high or low.
As long as the Finance Ministry drains the honest tax payer and creates a Kafkasian bureaucracy, as long as the Troika loan agreement and austerity program boost only recession and unemployment, there is not a single decree, a book of measures, a law or surveillance system that would effectively combat tax evasion.
