Volos: desparate parents urge Greek PM to foster their children

In a symbolic action, at least fourty parents from Volos, urged the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and the Parliament Speaker to adopt or foster their children. The members of the local association of families with three children in Almyros symbolically signed adoption papers agreeing that their children are free for adoption.

With this action, the parents want to raise the awareness of the political world about their difficult economic situation after the cuts in children allowance, the wages cuts, the unemployment.

With the children allowance reduced down to 268 euro for two months and new stricter allowance cap of some 40 euro per month per child, parents hit by unemployment cannot provide even the basics to their kids.

Should President Papoulias, Prime Minister Samaras and Parliament Speaker Meimarakis accept the adoption, they will have to find ways how to feed 120 children in total. (local daily Taxydromos via newsit.gr)
