The inmate who captured with a mobile phone the inhumane conditions at Korydalos prison hospital and uploaded them on social media is to appear before the Disciplinary Board of the largest prison in Athens.
According to the Initiative for Prisoners’ Rights , despite the furor created in and outside the country about the hospital conditions, the prosecutor decided to obey the law and the only measure against these conditions was the disciplinary prosecution of the prisoner who published the pictures.
So far neither the Minister of Justice nor any prison prosecutor have visited the hospital “Agios Pavlos” in Korydallos, said the Initiative for Prisoners’ Rights adding that “neither the prisoners’ simple request to be tested on tuberculosis virus has been satisfied.”
On February 16th, the majority of 180 chronic-ill prisoners in Greece’s biggest prison Korydallos in Athens went on “hunger” strike asking for proper health care treatment. Heart and kidney patients, HIV positive patients, people suffering from diseases, contagious or not, are stuck together in what they call the “hellhole” of Korydallos.
As of today, the sick prisoners continue their strike abstaining from drugs.
