UPD The Crocodile won’t bite; Croco-Dundees in Crete; see Poll results

UPD July 29/2014: Despite all efforts and all the crocodile dundees who rushed to Crete, famous crocodile “Sifis” hasn’t bite so far…. The crocodile won’t bite. The slaughtered chicken in the traps got rotten and started to stink. “Sifis”, the crocodile of Crete, turns to be a clever cat, after all.  The two huge traps were set in the waters of Potami Dam last Friday, but the crocodile of Rethymnon moved to other swallow waters and other tasty bites. Most probably ducks that are merrily swimming around.

Now the reptile experts flocked to the island of Crete are taking into consideration a Plan B – to catch the crocodile with the help of anesthesia – or a Plan C – to catch the crocodile with a huge fishing net.

Therefore, a famous crocodile dundee is about to arrive in Greece and try to solve the issue: Olivier Behra, the crocodile expert from Discovery Channel, is expected to arrive on Crete the first days of August, should crocodile Sifis continue to resist to the mouthwatering flavors of slaughtered chicken roasting under the hot summer sun.

Local media report that another crocodile expert, Ervin Moser from Austria is already in Crete. He is expected to assist the Cretans in search and capture Sifis.

Sifis, the crocodile,  the crocodile-experts world and the local community of Rethymnon is confused.

A part of the locals say the crocodile should remain in the dam lake in a isolated area in order to function as attraction for tourist and boost the local economy. According to daily Ta NEA, local tourist operators have already scheduled “a stop at Potami Dam” in their daily excursion programs.

A chance for a tourist to spot Sifis,  get a selfie with him or even be eaten by the crocodile of Rethymnon.

And you? What do you think?

should the crocodile be captured and transferred?

or

should he enjoy the rest of his life free in the Potami Dam Lake?

Last Friday I started a poll on this crucial question.

So far, the results are:

However, the poll in on KTG’s alternative channel : keeptalkinggreece.wordpress.com, because the KTG site was down on Friday.

Please, take the poll by clicking here: Take me to the crocodile poll

  1. I think that we should do whatever is best for the crocodile. If he (she?) is happy and thriving where he is then I think he should be left alone. On the other hand, if he is not able to survive properly there then he should be moved. Human considerations (especially his tourism benefit) should not be a major factor.

  2. If “Sifis” remain in Rethymnon he will be alone aaaall his life, no crocodile ladies – nothing. Then he will become : ‘Sifis o bakouris”, no it is not fair. He should be transferred to a place with crocodiles.
