Just when I was sitting at the balcony, wondering what this troubled society of Greeks need in times of ongoing economic crisis, high unemployment and recession, I felt a short pain on my right arm. It wasn’t an angry and hungry mosquito. It was a Leopard tank having fired a shot at me with brand- newly delivered ammunition. How comes? Oh, the German Leopard tank got finally it ammunition and is ready for the battlefield. The contract between the Greeks and the German Rheinmetall was signed just a couple of days ago.
German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall will supply Greece with ammunition worth €52million. Pleased about the signing of the contracts the Germans announced on their official website “two of the ordered ammunition types will be supplied to the Greek Army by the end of 2014 in order to meet an immediate requirement.”
“The defence ministries of Germany and Greece laid the contractual groundwork for this procedure in an agreement reached at the beginning of 2014.
Specifically, the contract calls for the supply of 120mm DM12A2 multipurpose ammunition as well as DM63 and DM63A1 kinetic energy (KE) rounds. It also includes the production and installation by Rheinmetall of ballistic tables for the KE ammunition in the Greek Leopard 2A4.
Two of these ammunition types, the DM12A2 and the DM63, will be supplied to the Greek Army by the end of 2014 in order to meet an immediate requirement.” (Press Release by Rheinmetall here)
I knew, we ware in the middle of an economic war, but that tank ammunition was at “immediate requirement”? I had no idea…
At the same time, I reckoned the article I wrote beginning of March 2012, an article saying that “Germany, France and The Netherlands sold to Greece arms worth 1 billion euro amid debt-crisis“. it was apparently the ‘deal’ for Greece securing bailouts and PSIs.
I wonder, what the goodies form France and Holland will be. OOOUCH, I said!
