A bomb of a decision! The First Instance Court in Athens ordered the rehiring of former state broadcaster ERT personnel, some 2,000 people who were sacked overnight on June 10th 2013. The Court orders the Greek Public Administration to re-hire the sacked employees in the new state broadcaster. Specifically, the Court order the Greek government as successor of ERT “to accept the services of the ex ERT-personnel, place them in positions they held before the closure and pay them the same salaries.”
Furthermore, the Court orders the payment of the missed salaries plus interest.
Any non-compliance with the Court decision is to be fine with €100 per day to each one of the plaintiffs.
KTG understands that the majority of the fired ERT personnel had appealed to Court, after the Greek government decided to close down state broadcaster ERT overnight. However some of the fired personnel was hired in the new state broadcaster NERIT.
Here is to notice the long tradition of Greek government to not comply with Court decisions when it come to rehire ex civil servants.
