Drop by drop, slice by slice, tranche by trance. Another package of the much-praised and anticipated aid for refugees and migrants in Greece is underway. EU Commissioner for humanitarian Aids and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides announced that a total of 115 million euro will be given to non-governmental organizations to improve the conditions for the almost 60,000 refugees and migrants stranded in Greece.
“With this new amount, the total financing from the Financial Instrument of Emergency Support is €198 million. The first package already granted was €83 million, while the European Union has granted aid of over one billion euro to Greece in order to address the existing challenges of migration,” Stylianides said in a press conference in Thessaloniki.
The additional funding will focus on four priorities: improve the existing shelters and construction of new camps before the winter, provide direct assistance to refugees through food cards programs, refugees’ access to education and assistance to unaccompanied minors.
I suppose, winter has to wait until the EU has released the money, the NGOs have submitted their plans in order to receive it, the money will be received by the NGO and the new shelters will be constructed.
PS 83million + over 1billion [given] +115million [to come] = €193million. Me thinks, me needs to refresh school maths… Or find a job as kitchen assistance with exhausting long working hours. Because reading and hearing the news confuses me more and more. Because politicians irritate me.
