A catamaran boat was destroyed and a sailboat sank on Thursday, during a fire in the port of Paxos in the Ionian Sea.
The captain of one boat jumped into the sea to save himself.
The fire broke out on one tourists boat and spread to the one anchored right next to it, engulfing both in flames in the port of Gaios.

A firefighting boat that immediately departed from Igoumenitsa in order to assist in the operation, so that the fire does not spread to other boats anchored in the port, made a decisive contribution to the fire.
A catamaran, on which 2 American and 2 British tourists were aboard, was in the process of departing from the port, when suddenly, for an unknown reason, its engine caught fire. Immediately, the captain removed the tourists from the boat and made efforts, according to eyewitnesses, to put out the fire. However, he was unable to do so, he jumped int the sea to save himself.
The fire spread to a sailboat next to the catamaran.
Nobody was injured at the incident.

Meanwhile, the fire is under control and the Fire Department will immediately launch an investigation into the causes of the fire once the conditions allow.
Both the catamaran and the sailboat were touristic boats taking visitors around for a daily trip.
