A top academic institution in Athens is taking advantage of the miserable labor market in austerity-ridden Greece and offers jobs without salary. It is the National Technical University of Athens, the oldest and most prestigious institution in the country. It seeks to hire holders of PhD to work in the School of Civil Engineering without salary.
The “job vacancy” addresses holders of PhD up to five years after obtaining the academic title. They will be assigned to teaching duties.
The … unprecedented “job opening” the NTUA lists two incentives it offers:
- access to Library, book borrowing and use of the electronic services of the library and the school
- secure physical access to workplace and work space
The job offer is for school year 2018-2019.
Some young Greeks may follow the call to enrich their Curriculum Vitae especially if they are jobless or work in jobs that have nothing to do with their field of studies and their PhD.
But Greece should not be wondering about the brain drain….
PS At least they could add to the incentives list a monthly card for the public transport means and a cheese pie…
Absolutely outrageous!
This is a joke or not?
It is similar to an unpaid internship and for some it could be a stepping stone to a better opportunity and work experience, albeit without pay.
Imagine the future of the new 4th Reich labour camps in Greece: no fences, residence anywhere in Greece with no restrictions, work hours from 9am to 9pm, no pay of any form. After completion of 10 years of service and a successful evaluation, food may be provided for employees free of charge.
