Extreme Windstorm strikes Trikala Imathias in N. Greece (videos)

It wasn’t just the usual summer rainfall but a powerful windstorm that hit the village of Trikala in Imathia prefecture in Macedonia, Northern Greece on Wednesday afternoon. Trees were uprooted, roof tiles and hangars were ripped out and electricity columns slanted. Main roads of the village were blocked with fallen trees and electricity cables lying bare on the asphalt.

This windstorm reportedly lasted only a couple of minutes but it was powerful enough to destroy properties and cause power outages.

Half of the village was without power for several hours.

It was mostly the West part of the 1,500-people village that was hit by the windstorm, local media report.

Fire service, police and crews from the electricity company rushed to the village to restore the damages.

Locals speak of an unprecedented weather phenomenon that hit their village and say it was a miracle that nobody was injured or human life was harmed.

According to Fire Service, the phenomenon occurred only locally and was accompanied by rainfall.
