A giant portion of french fries secured the island of Naxos in the Aegean Sea with a new Guinness Record.
The Association of Agricultural Cooperatives of Naxos managed to break their own previous record.
In less than 8 hours, 2.5 tons of diced potatoes were fried crispy and golden in 800 liters of olive oil in 24 large pots set in the main square of Kapares village by Agia Anna.
Women have been peeling, slicing and dicing the potatoes since Monday, in order to have the 2.5 tons ready for frying on Saturday.
The Guinness Record portion was weighing 625 kilograms.
The previous record also by the same Association was 554 kilograms.
A team of experts and witnesses were closely monitoring the whole procedure to verify that the necessary standards are kept. They certified that everything was done according to Guinness requirements and the collected data will be sent to Guinness headquarters and those responsible for the relevant certification, notes naxostimes.
The event was part of the 9th Naxos Potato Festival.
The french fries were distributed to locals and tourists who had flocked to take part to the event.
The potato of Naxos is known for its quality and rich flavor and taste due to the specific soil composition and the climate conditions in the Cyclades island.
