Greece’s Lord of the Rings, Golden athlete Lefteris Petrounias posted a picture from the bed where he lies just hours after the surgery in his left shoulder. The surgery was conducted in France on Monday morning, just a couple of days after Petrounias won his third Golden Medal in a row in Doha, last Friday, and despite the pain cause by the inflammation.
“Everything went will,” the 27-year-old athlete posted on his Facebook page and shared his anxiety with the thousands of his fans.
“I am still anxious to conclude rehabilitation successfully and I hope to return to my workout again in a bout three months. The love and strength you gave me to climb to the rings a few days ago will be my impetus and my recovery,” he added.
Thanking also the doctors and the whole medical team he wrote I thank my doctor, Odysseas Paxinos, who is right next to me from the very first moment, Dr Lafosse with his medical staff who took care of me and made me feel safe. I thank the Hellenic Gymnastics Federation, that took care of everything.”
The modest gymnast added in his post “I thank each one of you separately for the courage you give me. The fight that started today is difficult but we are trained in races and we will make it … #roadtotokyo #petrounias.”
Petrounias has never stopped thanking his fans for their support. Recalling the difficult competition in Doha due to the shoulder inflammation and the pain, he had told reporters his trainer told him showing the Greek fans at the stadium “Do it for them!”
Then everything was clear. Petrounias would forget the pain and do an outstanding performance for the fans.
