One firefighter died and another was transferred with respiratory problems in hospital on Friday. Both men were actively operating against a fire in an open plot near a factory in the industrial area of Sindos by Thessaloniki in Northern Greece.
The tragedy took place around 3 0′ clock Friday afternoon.
While combating against the blaze, the 46-year-old firefighter fell unease and fainted. An ambulance transferred him to the hospital, where he passed away.
The father of two minors, Dimitris Tsalis, was the chairman of the Firefighters Union in Central Macedonia.
According to preliminary media information, his death is attributed to pathological reasons.
Short time later, another firefighter, got sick with respiratory problems. The 45-year-old man was transferred to the Military Hospital of Thessaloniki where he remains hospitalized.
