A French hiker died on the spot after she fell off a cliff during a hiking tour in Sfakia area on the island of Crete.
The 60-year-old woman was hiking together with her husband in the gorge from Agia Roumeli to Agios Pavlos and was on the E4 hiking path when the accident happened at 10 o’ clock Thursday morning.
It was the woman’s husband who informed the Greek authorities, neakriti notes.
Fire Brigade teams from Anopolis and Vrysses as well as the chief of the Sfakia police station rushed to the area where the accident happened.
However, all help was too late. The woman had died on the spot.
She reportedly stumbled and fell off the cliff in a depth of 10 meters.
According to zapranews, rescuers recovered her body an hour after the accident.
A doctor from Agia Roumeli confirmed her death, while the body was transferred to the regional hospital in Sfakia and from there to the general hospital in Chania.
