Education Ministry ends recording pupils’ faith and nationality

The Greek Education Ministry decided to comply with EU laws and it will end the practice of schools keeping records of the pupil’s faith and nationality on secondary education school diplomas and the ministry’s website “myschool.

The Ministry’s decision published on Tuesday comes two weeks after the Greek Data Protection Authority ruled that the practice violates the Greek Constitution and the European Convention of Human Rights.

Minister Niki Kerameos said that aim of the Ministry for Education & Religion is to “constantly cultivate an environment for learning in schools which is free, creative and without exclusion, fighting every kind of discrimination and respectful of religious convictions.”

She added that the ministry would also protect the personal information of pupils in line with national and European law.
