Parliament approves probe into ex SYRIZA minister over Novartis handling

The Greek Parliament approved the proposal of New Democracy to set up a special investigation committee to probe former Alternate Justice Minister Dimitris Papangelopoulos (SYRIZA).

The committee will probe into Papangelopoulos’ possible involvement in crimes related with the Novartis case.

The former SYRIZA minister has been accused of interfering and manipulating into Novartis probe. “Reading the evidence in the case file shows there are clear indications of illegitimate intervention by Mr. Dimitrios Papangelopoulos in justice,” ND Parliamentary group secretary Stavros Kalafatis has said.

The proposal for the special committee was submitted by 30 New Democracy lawmakers.

The proposal received 173 Yes-votes. 83 MPs voted against. 4 “white”, 1 invalid.

Communist KKE party, Greek Solution and Mera25 abstained from the vote.

The committee is to start its works next week, probe results are expected in two months.
