Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has urged his ministers to be careful with statements and posts on social media because they provoke the citizens’ reactions and trigger outrage by specific groups of the society.
At the cabinet meting on Friday, the prime minister expressed his concern and asked the minister to be careful, news website thetoc reports.
“In doing so, the prime minister essentially ‘photographed’ Makis Voridis’s statement on disabilities but also the inappropriate statements by Education Minister Niki Kerameos and Deputy Labor Minister Domna Michailidou on the anniversary of 28. October 1940,” notes the website.
Voridis compared the women of silly walks protest happening as “handicapped.”
Keramos claimed Greeks fought in the WWII against “populism” and not “fascism and Nazism.”
Michailidou provoked with her statement that the Greeks’ motives against the Axis powers were “volunteering and social contribution.”
The prime minister did not hide his discomfort because on one hand the statements triggered the outrage among specific groups and on the other hand allowed the opposition to criticize the government.
Mitsotakis reportedly believes that the misplaced points of view blur the message that the government wants to send to the citizens.
PS That’s how politics is done. Even if the ministers be careful with what they say, they will never be able to stop talking and they will always show their real face to the public.
Scripta manent as the ancient Romans used to say in the proverb “Verba volant, scripta manent” -spoken words fly away, written words remain -. In modern times of IT tools, mobile phone videos and youtube also spoken words remain…
