Greece to upgrade F-16 and Mirage-2000 at a cost of half a billion euros

The Ministry of National Defense has submitted a bill to the Parliament including among others the upgrade of fighter jest F-16 and the Follow-On Support/FOS of Mirage-2000. The total cost exceeds half a billion euros.

The draft law envisages enhancing the operational performance and dynamics of F-16 aircraft as proposed by the aircraft manufacturer Lockheed Martin. The proposal refers to implement the necessary modernization and upgrading programs. These programs are worth a total of 279,710,000 USD for the benefit of the Ministry of National Defense and the Greek defense industry, the bill notes.

To support and maintain the high availability and efficiency of the Mirage 2000-5 aircraft weapon system over a seven-year period, the approval of three draft FOS agreements with the three manufacturing companies is envisaged. The cost of the deal with the manufacturers for the Mirage 2000 is 260.050,000 euros.

The draft bill entitled “Regulations of the Defense Ministry” includes also issues like the Greek shipyards of Skaramang in relation to Submarine Type 214AIP program.
