Several websites of the Greek government and institutions went down late Thursday evening for reason so far “unknown.”
Among the websites affected are of the Ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Merchant Shipping, Public Revenues, Police and Fire Service, as well as the Prime Minister’s website.
The Foreign Ministry site was shut down at about 9 pm on Thursday night. It was restored some time later, like a few others.
it should be recalled that last week, Turkish hackers had launched a cyber attack and brought down the websites of the Hellenic Parliament, the Intelligence Service (EYP), the Foreign Ministry, the Stock Exchange and the Ministry of Finance.
A group of Greek hackers responded with a counter-attack in the next 24 hours.
Around midnight Thursday, government spokesman Stelios Petsas confirmed the cyber-attack saying that the problem was caused due to a cyber-attack and the the websites were in operation again.
