Gov’t to discipline Greeks with “healthy eating, no smoke & alcohol, exercise”

Ηealthy eating, weight control, abstinence from smoking and alcohol and regular exercise: the Greek government and the Prime Minister are determine to teach Greeks health living, good prevention and discipline.
According to state-run news agency amna, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis underlined during a cabinet meeting:
“prevention is very important and we can get positive results if we follow four basic rules: healthy eating, weight control, abstinence from smoking and alcohol, as well as regular exercise.”

A draft bill with emphasis on prevention by the Health Ministry was the first item discussed at the meeting on Thursday.

Will greasy delicacies and calories bombs be soon just a memory of the Greek way of living?

It is worth noting that the Health Minister, Vassilis Kikkilias, is a non-smoker, most likely healthy and a former basketball player, while the Prime Minister loves to spend his weekends in winter skiing and in summer swimming, while he does several other sports during the week days.

The measures to discipline Greeks were extended even if on different level also to public servants with a draft bill on local authorities presented by the Interior Ministry: The bill includes three key axes: mobility, appointments to positions of responsibility, and disciplinary boards.

PS I have nothing against ‘the four healthy rules’, had I only the money to buy organic pesticides-free food, find time to regularly exercise next to my 12-hour working day in a 7-day working week, have other healthy hobbies or patches to forget smoking, staff to  run my household, a cook for my 3 daily meals, a driver to bring me to the nearest sports facility or walking track, a 20-euro banknote for the doctor’s visit and regular controls… etc etc.

I am really curious about the Healthy Living & Prevention bill and whether doctors will prescribe it free of charge incl. healthy food for at least one year.

When one considers the grave shortages in the Greek health sector,  I’m afraid such proposal are just “cosmetic interventions” with no cost for the public finances.
