Mt Athos: Greek state to support installation of photovoltaic units to cover monks’ needs

The Greek state will support the installation of photovoltaic units to meet the needs of the monks living in their own “Republic” in Mount Athos.

Energy Minister, Costis Hadjidakis, and a government delegation visited Mt Athos a couple of days ago and discussed ‘burning’ issues with the leadership of the Holy Community.

Discussed were also issues such as biological purification, firefighting plans for the forests of Mount Athos, and the inclusion of the area in the as well as its inclusion in the Natura 2000 Project aiming to protect the ecosystem.

PS I want to believe that the state’s support will be “moral” and “spiritual” and not in form of funds and subsidization for everybody in the country believes that the monasteries are not struggling financially.
