Two ‘suspected cases’ of coronavirus in Greek Parliament, men visited Italy

Two suspected cases of coronavirus have been detected in the Greek Parliament in Athens, media report on Thursday afternoon. The two suspected cases refer to two Parliament employees who recently traveled to northern Italy. They reportedly  have “suspicious symptoms.”

The two men were taken to a hospital for tests, blood samples were sent to Pasteur Institute in the Greek capital, cnngreece reports.

Earlier today, authorities decided protective measures against the coronavirus in the Parliament where more than 1,500 people work and 1,000 officials, associates, policemen and visitors are moving in the premises on a daily basis.

Parliament Speaker, Costas Tasoulas, had decided to set up a special space in the courtyard to control all those who have symptoms, that is, high fever, runny nose and cough.

Officials with suspicious symptoms are urged not to come to Parliament that will remain open in any case.

At the same time, it has been instructed to replace “solid” soaps with liquids in the toilets in order to prevent the transmission of the virus if there was an outbreak in the building. Outside the rooms, additional hand sanitizers were placed.

A few days ago, the health department of the Parliament sent an e-mail to all employees informing them about basic hygiene measures against the coronavirus.

Three cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Greece, two in Thessaloniki and one in Athens. Dozens of suspected cases are being tested in several regions of the country.

  1. I have read that the best way to avoid the virus is to stay home. Next, if going out into the public, avoid large gatherings of people. Stay at least 1 meter away from everyone. Wear a mask and surgical gloves and do not put your hands near your face. Throw out the gloves and mask in a safe container upon returning home. When in public, wash hands frequently, not taking off surgical gloves and use hand sanitizer.
