“Greece can’t be coerced and will not be blackmailed. The borders of Greece are the borders of Europe,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said during a visit in the Evros region and shor tbefore the EU leadership arrives in the aea too.a
“Our morale is high and we are doing our job, with the society united as this is a national effort. Nobody will enter illegally,” Mitsotakis said.
Both Evros and the region of Thrace are “standing tall”, the prime minister noted and he thanked the armed and security forces as well as citizens for lending their support.
Mitsotakis was accompanied by National Defence Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos, Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis and Minister of State and government spokesperson Stelios Petsas.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council presidnet Charles Michel and the president of the European Parliament David Sassoli landed in Orestiada around 1:00 noon.
Together with the Greek PM, they will fly on a helicopter over the region and Kastanies customs office to get a picture of the migration situation at the Greek-Turkish borders.
