Coronavirus: Greece bans flights to/from UK and Turkey

Greece has banned flights from and to UK and Turkey on Monday due to coronavirus spread in these countries. In addition to the flights ban, there are restrictions for people coming from Turkey.

The flights ban to/from both countries is in effect: 6:00 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2020, until until 3:00 p.m. April 15.

“The temporary restriction for aircraft from United Kingdom is for preventive reasons for the protection of public health from the further spread of the COVID-19 in the Greek Territory,” the government decision published in the Official Gazette read.

In addition to the flight ban to/from Turkey, Greece has suspended also sea, rail and road connections and prohibits  persons entering to Greece.

Exceptions are:

  1. Greek citizens, holders of residence permit, as well as persons with permanent or usual residence in Greece.
  2. transit of lorries for the transport of goods
  3. transport of goods by ships

All coronavirus and lockdown restrictions are “temporary” for a specific period of time, but may be extended depending on the progress of the pandemic.
