Three infants tested positive to COVID-19 have been hospitalized since the weekend and one of them is in serious condition.
The 15-month-old girl in currently intubated in the Intensive Care Unit of the pediatric clinic of the Ippokratio hospital in Thessaloniki. The infant was underlying health problems when it got infected with the virus.
The baby girl was the first among the 5,000 people of the Roma settlement in Drosero by Xanthi, , north-eastern Greece, to be tested positive.
All contacts of the child in its close family environment have been tested and in isolation.
Health teams visited the settlement on Sunday and took samples from about 300 residents., where more than 5,000 Roma live, as well as the services of the Community Center that operates there. Results are expected in the nxt few hours, and will determine whether broader isolation measures like quarantine will be taken.
Two more infants, aged 3 and 6 months, were admitted to the same hospital in Thessaloniki on Sunday.
The babies have reportedly mild symptoms and are not related to each other. Samples from their families,residents of the second biggest city in Greece, have been sent to designated laboratories.
COVID-19 has cost the life to 99 people, after one more patient died on Monday.
A total of 2,114 confirmed cases have been recorded, although Greece does not conduct massive tests to the generla population.
