The tragedy caused by the forest fire in the Derveni area of Thessaloniki is growing as a second body was found near the settlement of Liti in the Municipality of Oreokastro, northern Greece. The body of a child was found inside the house and it is highly possible that it belongs to the 12-year-old son of the family who went missing on Tuesday, state broadcaster ERT reported.
The body has not be officially identified yet.
According to the media reports, the child is allegedly the son of the 65-year-old man who found dead nearby and the 40-year-old woman who suffered burn injuries and has been hospitalized since yesterday. she is in stable condition. (KTG reported HERE on June 30).
The house was located outside the settlement close to the forest.
The fire broke out in the area initially in low vegetation in the afternoon on Tuesday and spread quickly to the nearby forest due to strong blowing winds.
Accoring to the Fire Service, the forest fire is without an active front today, Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
