A fire broke out early Wednesday on a Greek-flagged freighter while sailing in the Arabian Sea.
The freighter “Faneromeni” left from the United Arab Emirates, empty of cargo, with an 18-member crew, five of them Greeks.
According to news agency amna, the reasons of the fire are still unknown but sources said that the fire started at the ship’s engine room.
The fire has been extinguished and the vessel is sailing adrift with the crew members on board, the Indian authorities said.
The Greek Shipping Ministry is in constant contact with the responsible Indian authorities that had asked for assistance from nearby sailing vessels.
