Captain of football team Manchester United Harry Maguire was arrested late Thursday on the island of Mykonos along with his brother and a friend for assault and attack against police officers. The three are expected to be led to the prosecutor.
Citing police sources, state-run news agency amna, reports that Maguire, his brother and a friend of theirs were involved in a fight at about midnight with other British tourists outside a bar.
The residents called the police.
When the police officers and attempted to resolve the problem, they were verbally attacked while one of the three suspects attacked one police officer.
The policemen asked them to follow them to the police station with their van but when they arrived, Maguire and the other two fled shouting and swearing. The three perpetrators were arrested later.
According to news website zougla, opposed his arrest resulting into the slight injury of the hand of oner of the policeman. As for his brother,one police officer used the technique of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in order to restrain him and handcuff him.
The 27-year-old Maguire and the other two reportedly apologized but a lawsuit was filed against them.
Some media report that the three were taken to prosecutor on the neighboring island of Syros.
Manchester United issued a statement saying that Maguire is fully co-operating with the Greek authorities.
“The club is aware of an alleged incident involving Harry Maguire in Mykonos last night. Contact has been made with Harry, and he is fully co-operating with the Greek authorities. At this time we will be making no further comment.”
